La Catedral-Mezquita de Córdoba

Inside stained glass from the cathedral reflects next to columns of the former mosque. Originally, this building was a Christian Visigoth Church until 784 a.d. when it was turned into a Mosque when the Caliph of Damascus set up his court in Córdoba. In 1236, King Ferdinand III took over Córdoba and turned the Mosque into a Cathedral. It’s estimated that over 100 columns were removed from the heart of the mosque to construct the cathedral.
